"Drone", from the series The intelligence of feeling, was painted early in 2017 whilst the artist continued to explore her inner sense of place and space, and having realised in 2016 that her work was displaying echoes of the Chinese landscapes of the Song and Yuan dynasty which became symbolic shorthand and emblems of an Artist's character and spirit.
This new series, whilst drawing on scape, is defined by emotion stemming from feeling and considers vulnerability, difficulty, loss and the notion of sometimes feeling lost in liminal space..... the human condition.
Parr continues to explore the balance of chance and control during the painting process using oil, charcoal and acrylic, with pallet knife, brush cloth and sponge, building up layers and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add, a reverberation of relationship with the canvas of addition and subtraction, push and pull.
Parr intends to create something that is ambiguous, chimerical, organic and elemental.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang. The canvas is deep edged which shows small signs of the working process to the canvas side.
